It started with a simple idea

In 2017, The One Box was established with a simple belief: families experiencing hardship should have reliable access to quality, nutritious fresh food.

As a charity founded and established by The Fruit Box Group, The One Box could draw on something already in place: an established fresh food supply chain, national logistics network and years of experience sourcing, packing and delivering fresh produce.

Instead of asking families to travel to another service, The One Box began delivering fresh food through trusted schools and community organisations, bringing support closer to the places families already know.

More than fresh food

Fresh food is at the heart of The One Box but the impact goes much further.

A box collected each week offers a consistent moment of care and connection that builds trust. With trust, conversations can happen to connect families to other people, opportunities and support services that further support family stability and wellbeing.

This understanding, strengthened by our independent research, continues to shape how The One Box develops and measures its impact.

Through our founding partner, The Fruit Box Group, we can draw on established fresh food sourcing, packing and delivery infrastructure to efficiently reach communities across Australia.

Local connection

Rather than building a separate network for families to navigate, we work through trusted schools and community organisations. These partners know their communities and can provide support in a familiar, discreet environment.

Together, this creates a model designed to provide more than a food delivery. It creates a regular point of connection that both nourishes and stabilises children and families.

From food relief to lasting change

Today, The One Box is an Australian charity building stability, connection and pathways to support for families facing hardship.

Our work starts with consistent access to fresh food, but our ambition reaches further: to help create the conditions in which families can feel more supported, connected and confident about what comes next.
